Alternative English proficiency tests available at IEC

NOTICE

IEC would like to inform candidates that our IELTS test centre is currently undergoing a renewal process. As a result, IELTS test dates are temporarily unavailable while this process is being completed.

For candidates who require an English language proficiency test, IEC continues to offer the following internationally recognised alternatives:

PSI SELT (Secure English Language Test)

  • Suitable for UKVI-related applications
  • Conducted at IEC
  • Accepted for approved UK immigration purposes

LanguageCert Academic and General

  • Internationally recognised English language qualifications
  • Suitable for a range of study, employment, and professional requirements
  • Available at IEC

IELTS – British Council

As a British Council IELTS Test Centre, IEC administers IELTS Academic and General Training exams, widely accepted by universities, employers, and immigration authorities worldwide. IELTS assesses the four key language skills — Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking — and is essential for international university applications and professional pathways.

LanguageCert English Exams

IEC offers LanguageCert English examinations, recognised globally and regulated by UK authorities. Exams are available for general and academic English across CEFR levels A1 to C2. Options include:

  • LanguageCert International ESOL – general English proficiency
  • LanguageCert Academic – academic English for further study
  • LanguageCert SELT (Secure English Language Test) – accepted for UK visas and immigration

PSI SELT Exams

IEC is an authorised centre for PSI Skills for English SELT Exams, approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). These tests provide secure English language certification required for visas, study, and settlement purposes.

OxfordAQA IGCSEs & International A-Levels

IEC offers OxfordAQA International Qualifications, including IGCSEs and International AS & A-Levels, recognised by universities and employers globally. These qualifications focus on subject knowledge, critical thinking, and analytical skills — ideal for students progressing to higher education.

Test Centre FAQs

1. Which exam should I take?
  • IELTS (British Council): For university admission, professional registration, and many immigration purposes worldwide.
  • LanguageCert: For general or academic English proficiency, study, work, or visa applications.
  • PSI SELT: Secure English Language Test required for certain UK visa and immigration applications.
  • OxfordAQA IGCSEs & A-Levels: For students completing international secondary education and preparing for higher education.
    IEC counsellors can recommend the right exam based on your goals.

All must be taken at the IEC Test Centre.

  • IELTS & LanguageCert: Results are generally valid for 2 years.
  • PSI SELT: Valid per the authority’s requirements.
  • OxfordAQA: Certificates are permanent.

Currently, IEC offers preparation courses for the IELTS only. But if you need preparation for the other tests, IEC will be able to refer you to the right teachers and websites for guidance.
