Founded in March 1981, IEC has spent over four decades nurturing confident communicators and future-ready students. What began as a commitment to strong English foundations has grown into a trusted pathway guiding learners from early childhood through university entry and beyond.
At IEC, English is not just a subject — it is the gateway to academic success, global opportunities, and personal confidence. Our programmes are carefully designed to develop academic English proficiency, critical communication skills, and clear progression into universities locally and overseas.
Alongside our academic pathways, IEC’s Performing Arts Pathway enriches each learner’s journey through baby ballet, speech & drama, and musical theatre (in 2026) — building confidence, creativity, and stage presence that complement academic excellence.
For over 40 years, IEC has remained dedicated to one purpose:
equipping students with the English, skills, and confidence to thrive at university and in life.
With over 45 years of tried and tested methods and materials, our English courses cover the four learning components: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. These are taught through drama, song, games, and stories by our native-speaking teachers from Australia, Canada, the UK, and the USA.
We not only aim to improve our students’ English skills but also prepare them for tertiary education in the English medium. Each final-year secondary student receives a one-on-one counselling session on further studies options, guided by our experienced education counsellors.
Classes are small (maximum 20 students) to ensure individual attention and effective learning, helping students reach their full potential both inside and beyond the classroom.
CSR Initiative – IEC-BookReach:
As part of our commitment to giving back, IEC runs IEC-BookReach, which collects discarded books from international schools abroad and reallocates them to rural schools in Sabah, helping bridge educational gaps and foster a love of reading among underprivileged students.
Since 1981, IEC has been guiding students to make informed decisions about further education. Many of our students are now successful global citizens, making a difference wherever they go.

Since 2014, IEC has been nurturing creativity, confidence, and self-expression through our Performing Arts Pathway, which includes Baby Ballet, Speech & Drama, and Musical Theatre. These programs complement our academic pathways, helping students develop well-rounded skills for life.
CSR Initiative – IEC Heart for Arts Foundation:
We are proud to run the IEC Heart for Arts Foundation in partnership with SPArKS – Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (sparks.org.my). Together, we aim to broaden access to the performing arts, inspire young talent, and give back to the community through creative programs and scholarships.
Designed to equip learners with the language, communication and strategic skills needed for academic success and global opportunities.
